Does God cause sickness as a test?

S.I.E. ....says I have the flu, and it's evil? The devil caused cancer? The devil causes heart attacks, perhaps? ......gain, we might not like it, but sickness and death are ultimate grace, given to us by God, and free us into eternity

I realize I never got a response on this so was wondering what are your thought on this S.I.E and some scripture to explain why you agree or disagree. Can any thing listed be the cause to why we are sick ?

I would like to say, my Heavenly Father the giver of life and creator of everything do no not make us sick or allow us to be sick to test us.

We need to stop that foolish doctrine that everything " it's God's will, " This one died of cancer it was God's will, that one died of a heart attack God's will. Whenever someone dies we automatically say it's God's will. Nem, Nem Nem..

When will we little humans realize we're killing ourselves. We choose not to live according to his laws, there's a reason why he said ..Remember the sabbath. He didn't say remember not to kill or steal. Our bodies need rest and he the creator and my heavenly Father knows this. We no longer eat how he instructed. We consume foriegn objects , synthetic drugs and never once question these doctors or these specialist. Marijuana is a natural plant created by God , we allow the elite to tell us its unhealthy/illegal. But you can buy cigarette and smoke as many as you like. We wear blinders to the fact that its money not health, that if marijuana is to become legal people will medicate themselves naturally and the pharmaceutical industry will lose. Why take zoloft when you can make tea from natural herbs? The lie that it will increase crime is hogwash, if marijuana is legalize it will be regulated. An age limit for purchase in stores can be in place, as they do for alcohol. Drug dealers will lose business, less money spent to house non violent petty marijuana "crimes". No one will never know the true health benefit of these herbs or any other herb God created, because we have chosen man made over God made.

We vaccinate our babies with ingredients we can not pronounce, never questioning side effects. We support war and never wonder what fumes or deathly chemicals are being released into our water supply and air supply when these weapons are being made and being used. We expose ourselves to radiation with our high tech gadgets.
We pay for water when it's suppose to be free. We pollute the water and pay to have it clean. We fly in planes never questioning or caring the effects the gases and smoke that releases have on the environment. We have 2 or more vehicles for one household, the pollution and damage we create.

We eat scavengers of the sea and expect to give birth to healthy babies and live healthy lives. We eat unclean meat and animals with growth hormones. We consume genetically modified organism and call them fruits and vegetables. We allow them to use fertilizers and other chemicals for our food to have a nice appearance.

Lets recap.
We don't grow our own food or have access to clean water
We are vaccinated from birth
We can smoke cigarette and not consume a natural herb
We are drugged up
We never ask what is Fluoride ? Why we don't have a choice if it's in our drinking water or not ? And who gave these people the right to say we need Fluoride in our water ?
We expose ourselves to radiation
We support activities that pollute our air and water supply
We don't rest
We never question the fumes released from airplanes
We no longer eat raw foods
We still believe HIV is a natural disease caused from having sex and that it could never be man made, or some nuclear experience or vaccine test gone wrong.
We pride ourselves in stories of men visiting the moon whether it's a true story or not, without asking what affect do these modern rockets have on our environment and the universe.
We think all natural disasters are from God, never wondering if bombs trigger these earthqaukes, or from satelllite radiation or from radioactivity.

With all the things we do and permit, is it still God allowing us to be sick ..or us exercising OUR FREE WILL, by acting like ungrateful kids who participate in daily activities that will kill us and our babies. WE make ourselves sick not God. We choose to eat crap, we choose to be ignorant and not ask "why". We choose not to control where our food comes from. We choose to be modern and industrial and neglect farming. Life and death have always been our choice. I should not have vegetables from isreal in my market, it should be local. I should not find fish from china in my market. We abandon the simple life to be modern and therefore leaving everything to be outsource. Women went from sewing their own garments to buying it from factories that have child laborers.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

If nothing I said make sense I challenge you to go to a toxicologist and get tested and find out the poisons inside your body.

This is a response to the original question, and please do not over look everything I said to give your opinions on marijuana, start another thread and stick with the topic at hand. Which is "Does God cause sickness as a test"

My conclusion.

S.I.E Quoted:
I don't understand, BM. Are you saying this because you think it should somehow give you more credibility or authority, or something?

Wallowing in misery isn't the only option when faced with pain and suffering...but let's be clear: pain and suffering are unavoidable!

Unavoidable.

So, the question is, what do you do with it. And there's nothing in your repretoire of whatever you can dispense to folks, that would cause immunization from this. Because we're born into it. No matter what you want to think about your ability to rise "above the law" or whatever.

You prescribe denial. Some here, including myself, are prescribing a trusting, a leaning into, an accepting of grace and love through believing.
I never mentioned one time that we can completely avoid being sick.
The scripture does mention this..

1Jn 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

I have given my conclusion. Does God cause sickness as a test.

S.I.E Quoted:
You prescribe denial. Some here, including myself, are prescribing a trusting, a leaning into, an accepting of grace and love through believing.
I mentioned:
We are told to believe, We are told we have what we say, We are told it's according to our faith. We are told not to fear, because our Lord has overcome for us.. Ignore these things to your own hurt.
S.I.E Quoted:
Not only that, but let's now bring it to the WHO DONE IT question? As scriptures above clearly show, it is God. To not admit that is to live in denial, or under a false doctrine that allows for wild and wacky translation of the text.
I already stated What Hebrew Scholars have said about the English translations only using the Hebrew Causative Verb. It should read... I God will Allow the curse.. However, if you don't fancy Hebrew study and wish to use just the English, then in every case we see God "Cause" sickness it was punishment for sin until you are destroyed.
For God to want you sick, would mean God would be OK with you doing what caused sickness, and that was not harkening to his Word.

S.I.E Quoted:
Evil things, huh? So, you know what's evil and not, when it comes to things like sickness, death, and other "acts of God" (insurance speak, for natural disasters) that cause mass death?
Your joking, Right???

S.I.E Quoted:
How about: do you stand in faith against God? (note the irony)
If God caused the sickness for a test... we should embrace it, get sicker and sicker. We should never go to a doctor in case we mess up God's test... He knows what's best, right?? Why fight it if it's God.

S.I.E Quoted:
No. Wrong. "I"...as in Jesus...is what overcame the world. Not your faith in Him. He alone, has overcome the world. Our faith allows us to be on His team...but regardless, His overcoming the world HAS ALEADY BEEN DONE, and it was done unilaterally.
you missed a scripture or two, brother......

1Pe 5:9
Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
1Jn 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, our faith.

Jesus Is Lord

sorry rizen1: if I'm understanding your question correctly, you're asking me what I think about whether cigarette smoke, flouride, unsafe sex, vaccinations, processed foods, airplane fumes, can be causal to our sickness?

If so, I would say: certainly they can! So, I personally don't smoke, try to eat healthy foods, stay monogomous, consume alcohol responsibly, etc., etc. Even so...you could live the healthiest lifestyle in the world, and you will still become - eventually - physically ill. Also, we're not talking here exclusively of physical illnesses, right? We're also talking about financial, mental, spiritual, etc. A holistic discussion, I presume. :-)

1Jn 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

That's an interesting scripture BM. Thanks for sharing it. Have you ever met someone that the "wicked one toucheth" not?? I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but I've never seen it.

For God to want you sick, would mean God would be OK with you doing what caused sickness

Again, you're assuming man drives things, not God. You think we, man, causes sickness? You think that those who are sick, caused it upon themselves? That's quite harsh and unloving to those who find themselves sick.

The above scripture speaks quite to the contrary on that one BM. I get that you don't like it...but it's not really deniable, except by choice.

Your joking, Right???

No. Are you? Are you going to say that the Japanese Tsunami, as an example, is evil? Are you going to say it has a will, and a motive? Again...I get that no one likes natural disasters, but they just are what they are! They are a fact of life. They happen. They are random, by our observation.

If God caused the sickness for a test... we should embrace it, get sicker and sicker.

Don't be silly. God is a God of order and balance. He sets things in motion in an exact and correct way. And thank God we have this verse in the Bible!

1 Cor 10:13 "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

...so, again, the potter / clay metaphor seems to be a very good picture of things. The refiners fire. There's a purpose in everything. Even in whatever it takes to mold us to what He wants us to be...and even if that might not feel good for us going through it.

And to answer your question on a personal basis: yes, I have embraced it and even asked and prayed that God mold me and shape me in ways, even if it might be viewed as "pain and suffering" for me. And at times, I've wondered why the heck I ever thought to do that! :-)

No, you should not want to get "sicker and sicker" just because pain might be a thing God might use for you. It's a tool in his toolchest...not a gift, per se.

1Jn 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, our faith.

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible has some commentary on the 1 John 5:4 passage, which I think is germane here. It says...

"The Arabic and Ethiopic versions read, "your faith"; great things, heroic actions, and wonderful victories, are ascribed to faith; see Hebrews 11:33; which must not be understood of the grace itself, as separately considered, but of Christ the object of it, as supported, strengthened, assisted, and animated by him: and then it does wonders, when it is enabled to hold Christ, its shield, in its hand, against every enemy that opposes. "

Actually the original question was " Does God cause sickness as a test ."
This explains the current tennis word match taking place. It's important everyone remain true to the original post and the question being asked. If we bring in other topics then it becomes a generalized discussion if God causes " things" to happen in our lives as a test ..when the question is " Does God create sickness as a test ?

All scripture and responses must go with the original question.

orry rizen1: if I'm understanding your question correctly, you're asking me what I think about whether cigarette smoke, flouride, unsafe sex, vaccinations, processed foods, airplane fumes, can be causal to our sickness?

That's not the question being asked. My response is in response to the original question, connect them to get a better understanding, read it over and let me know if you agree or disagree with scripture.

Thank you.

Well then, the question should have been more specific...because I was responding to the original question, I just view "sickness" as being far more than simply physically related. Even so...I believe the discussion(s) we've all had here would have been no different than how they have played out.

Sorry if I misunderstood your question, rizen1.

No need to be sorry you are not in error nor do I feel you have done any thing wrong.

I'll be standing on the side lines reading.:shade:

Does God cause sickness as a test? what do you think?

No, the war is over for the time being, we live under Grace and God is not into manipulating as during the times of the Old Testament.

Sickness is a natural calmaity of living in a imperfect world as well as all the other tribulations that we suffer through; mostly caused by Man by the way. He doesn't create these problems but I am sure God use this information? You could call it that but, for sure, He will observed to see how we react and it that sense, it is a test of our faith. Oddly, if you have this kind of Faith, these trials will make you even stronger and more determined in your Faith.

Now that my banning has been lifted...

Do you believe God strengthens are faith through sickness or healing?

I have no way of understanding exactly how it works but it is my experience that the following is true:

A true, "Born Again", Christian has his faith strengthened thorough all trials and tribulations. Your faith should increase even if you think there was no healing. God can but I do not think that he brings trials upon us as he did in the ancient times ( there is enough that occur on their own) but, He is most definitely interested in our reaction to them!

could you provide gospel scripture for Christ not healing someone to increase their faitH?

Faith...

Quenton:

I am going to step out and help RJ here.....

RJ quoted:

God can but I do not think that he brings trials upon us as he did in the ancient times ( there is enough that occur on their own) but, He is most definitely interested in our reaction to them!
What RJ meant to say is that a true "Born Again" Christian should be in their word day and night, believing God through all Trials... and we know that we believe that we receive... So someone in real faith would never think there was no healing or God would fail... So, what I think he meant to say was, even though we don't see healing, or faith still stands and by His stripes we are Healed....

God brings trials in Ancient times?? We know God changes not.... But we know that sickness and sudden death came from Sin... Sickness is the result of the Curse for disobedience.... I know RJ did not mean God changes.... What I think he meant is we have Jesus now....Which changed our ability to access God...

Accidents:
Luk 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
Luk 13:5
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

I am pretty sure RJ meant that.... for we know there is nothing that increases faith, but the Word of God. The Rest brings experience, and patience...

And if RJ did not mean all that.... We need a scripture so that we may learn.....

Jesus Is Lord.

Possible conclusion: (from all combined post)

1) God causes sickness. It was punishment for Sin, not for those that loved God.
Though I refuted that with studies in the Hebrew where it is proven that when translated only the Hebrew causative was considered. I also pointed out that later on in OT scripture and in the NT this was not that case but switched to Passive... (God allows, or God won't hear, God turns his back, no God, no hope) In other words, you reap what you sow...

If you just want to read the English and believe what it says, then God does cause sickness. Nothing Wrong with that stance. (Stay on God's "Good side".)

2) Does God use Sickness to test us.
Even though asked several times.. nobody has yet to produce a scripture stating that God uses sickness to test us. I did post several scripture that sickness was meant to kill and destroy us.. not test us.

3) Can a trail of faith also be sickness.
Any decision, any action we as Children of God make is important. How we respond to this world's junk is important. This includes sickness, and calamity. Do we stand in faith against the devil?? He is our adversary we are told. Do we put on the Armor of God?? Yes...
What overcomes the world... Our faith...
It's not God putting us through anything, but he sent his word to heal us, and deliver us from our destruction.... The Word delivers from, not puts us through evil things. We are told to believe, We are told we have what we say, We are told it's according to our faith. We are told not to fear, because our Lord has overcome for us.. Ignore these things to your own hurt.

4) Does God test us?

Yes!!! We have scripture that says he does.... Even though the scripture says God does not tempt any man (To try or test them, to put them through trials to check one's integrity) The scriptures says he does not do this with Evil........Sickness is evil...
All scripture stating God tried or tested was in connection to instruction to do something, to obey in something. Not some sickness put on you, or some horrible disaster to see how you would handle it.

God does not use sickness to test us!!!

Jesus Is Lord.

1) It's not so much as God causes sickness like BUAHAHAHA I WILL MAKE THIS ONE ILL. God is all powerful and all knowing. He wrote everyones entire book. God doesn't randomly cause people to be sick, it is a part of their plan for certain reasons that will escape us until we are in the Kingdom of God.

2) It happens for a reason. All the times in the bible it was used as a punishment or to kill someone for some reason. How do you explain modern day Christians for getting common colds or non lethal sicknesses? It just happen for a reason. Everything has a cause an effect. Is it a test? No one can say. It's in our plan, so it must have some use.

3) No where in the bible does it states that sickness will be used as a test. No where in the bible says it will not be. If something happens for the greater good, then it is good itself. The whole thing changes at that point. Of course we have no say in these things, we aren't worthy to judge actions. Suicide is a sin because it is murder, yet self sacrifice is not. Self sacrifice is putting yourself by your own decision in the place of someone else. Exactly what Jesus Christ did for every single person to ever live or have lived.

4) Um, sure why not.

I don't think God would correct something good God is a God of perfection...so why would Christ heal if God wanted sickness to test people....

So I saw in a thread in here people were calling Benny Hinn a false preacher because he healed ....uh...like really? I have my reasons to not believei n this guy but healing is one thing Christ Him and me all agree on it's for everyone.

God does not use sickness to test us!!!

Of course he does. The Lord allowed Job's afflictions. The Lord allowed Paul's infirmity. (BTW, the Lord's purpose was not to bring down these two men of God...)

2Co 12:7 Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me--to keep me from exalting myself!
2Co 12:8 Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me.
2Co 12:9 And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
2Co 12:10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Many think Paul's "thorn" was some type of physical ailment.

1Co 11:28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
1Co 11:29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.
1Co 11:30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.
1Co 11:31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.

I asked for a explanation not the scripture :P

sojourn4Christ
God does not use sickness to test us!!!

Of course he does. The Lord allowed Job's afflictions. The Lord allowed Paul's infirmity. (BTW, the Lord's purpose was not to bring down these two men of God...)

So, let me sort this out here...... This scripture does come to mind though..

Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

OK....... So Job served God, and Paul Served God... The bible says that God is love... (1Jn 4:8)

So..... God who is love sent Satan after Job to test him, Not to bring him down of course....(We will get to Paul)

That required the Murder of Job's Children, and to Make Job very sick, not to mention Loss of property...

I suppose sojourn4Christ, that you have had your own Children Murdered, and have learned This is a good thing... THE Only way I can explain your twisted concept of what love is, and who God is... BTW, You don't belong to the Group that Holds up signs "God Loves dead soldiers"

I would have been more mindful if you would have had the courtesy to read all the post here, and find out what was covered already..
----------------------------------------------------------------

Paul's "Thorn"

Paul being a student of the Old Testament from Youth, and upholding the law until he met the Lord quoted many OT scriptures in His writings as the Holy Spirit Directed...

Paul, had a abundance of revelation and knowledge, and was going under his own mental thinking, and intelligence, to preach the Gospel... So that the Gospel would be exalted (Paul's Knowledge) Satan sent a messenger to buffet him... (Resist) in the form of moving the people against Paul...

Jdg 2:3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

Pro 22:5 Thorns and snaresare in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

sa 27:4 Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.

Num 33:55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell.

The messenger of Satan was the thorn, that stirred up the people...
Paul went to the Lord for Help 3 times.... but Paul was Told His grace was More than enough (Sufficient, means more than enough, not barley get by) to overcome this.... Paul already had more than enough power to win over this situation, and had to learn....

What did Paul Learn...??? Not to rely on his own strength and intelligence to combat spiritual Issues....

The anointing of God.....
The Holy Spirit and the greater one in us, is our only way to have victory over the enemy... Our own flesh, and intelligence will never beat him..
2Co 12:9 And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ (Jesus the anointed one and His anointing) may dwell in me.

2cor 12:9.
..........that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may [3] pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!

Paul stated that I would rather be weak, that the power of the anointing may rest on me, for when that happens, then I am strong...

Paul later wrote...... I have learned!!!!!

Php 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
Php 4:12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ (The anointed one and his anointing) which strengtheneth me.

2Co 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

The Anointing, The Holy Spirit and power to overcome that situation was already there... the Lord just pointed that out to him.... It was not that the Lord denied his prayer, or answered "NO" The Lord just pointed out... "Hey Paul, your suppose to be doing this under My Power and anointing, not your own..."

Hence Paul wrote.... I have learned!!!! I can do all things through the Anointing and power of God, that gives me strength....... ALL Things!!!!

Jesus Is Lord.
