What is the Gospel?

As we live in New Covenant Gospel, the only Gospel is what God commissioned Paul to teach:

Paul begins his letter to the Romans by saying that he was commissioned to preach the gospel (Rom. 1:1).


“I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 1:11-12)

“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)

1 Corinthians 15:
1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

I won't argue with that but what is not commonly understood is the gospel that Paul and the rest of us was commisioned to preach is the Blessing of God. Salvation is only part of the Blessing. Remember? The very first words God spoke to man was Blessing.

The world's view of prosperity is wrapped around the world's value system, the love of money and not having to rely on other people; precisely the opposite of the gospel message. All those people's ideas about what's really important were based on bank account balances and possessions. They didn't know that you had the pearl of great price (Mt 13:45) which, in the Kingdom of God, is of the highest value. It is the thing to be treasured, not worldly possessions. BTW, I've been homeless, too, and if I have to go through that again, its o.k. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Php 4:13)

So.....Does that mean that all those Christians, who snubbed and were so cruel to us were not really Christians? They only thought they were? Were only religious people? Not at all. But they did have their eyes on the wrong God.

Love one another, John 14:34-35, A new commandment I give unto you. That you love one another; as I have loved you, that you love love one another. The repetition here is to drive home the point Jesus made. The same is true in verse 35. By shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love, one to another. This is re-enforced in Matthew 12:33, Either make the tree good and its fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt and its fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. Also on this matter we learn in Matthew 16: 5-12. Verses 5-11 is the parable and is summed up in verse 12. Plus Matthew 15:1-20. Jesus made it clear that religious people have blocked themselves to the Spirit with man made doctrine. Hence the snubbing you mentioned. Matthew and Luke also support this in each of their books, Matthew 7:21-23.

Not a bad answer Pag. Its my belief that these Christians were in deception. Many Christians would not believe that they could be deceived. But these people were. Satan comes along and puts pride before a person and it slips into their lives so easily. Pride is insidious, sneaky. Pride has many faces. Then deception follows.

LOL Ed There is no way I would sign a membership card to a church congregation. And I'm still a Christian. Membership only puts one in bondage to a certain assembly instead of to Jesus. It puts the pastor in a place where he thinks he can run your life.

Those are all great scriptures and all but they certainly do not negate any of the benefits that came with Jesus' perfect work at the Cross. Forgiveness of sins and salvation are just 2 of the benefits that His perfect work at the Cross brought every believer. We were made the seed of Abraham by His work too and we are blessed with the blessings of Abraham. Look at all the blessings Abraham had. He was so rich that even the people around him ebvied Him. They knew God's hand was behind him just by seeing his incredible wealth. The story of Abraham isn't just some cute story to fill some Bible pages. Its a type and shadow of the grace covenant that would return through Jesus Christ. The OT is just filled with an incredible amount of shadows and types of what Jesus would do and what we would have a claim to under the New Covenant. Many Christians simply miss this fact. They think all the OT is just Old Covenant and it simply isn't so.

I appreciate your Spirit and the truth. I believe the finality of the cross is for the forgiveness of sins; that was for all. But, the resurrection gives eternal life and salvation and that is only for those who receive it. The cross is definitely a precursor to salvation but it, in it self, does not bring "Spiritual Birth" and salvation, that is from the Spirit of the Lord.

. Let's look at this since it was used here and still used and obviously not really understood.

We are suppose to preach the Gospel, the Good News given too us by Jesus himself. I have always maintained that the first 4 books discribe and give us the guidelines for a lifestyle by which we MUST live our lives. That is how we preach the Gospel, by living as Jesus did. We have to be a living example of Jesus' teachings, just as Jesus was a living example for us. This post says that specifically. In verse 17b, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. "Not with wisdom of words" which will render what happen on the cross useless, that only leaves our lifestyle the only option. This is also carried forward in more detail in verse 8. This is according to the scriptures, this letter of Apostle Paul to his followers in Corinth. It was also repeated to all the cultures the disciples went to, using their lifestyle as they learned it from following Jesus.

Others are attracted to us by the way we live, our forgiveness when others hurt us, our praise for others when they help us, the patience we have when we are in adverse situations. It makes them what I have be calling Christ-curious people. With that intrigue we foster in others leaves them receptive to us talking about our Lord and how his strength is what we have based our life on. Conversely if we gather with friends and family get on a podium and start force-feeding them the Gospel they get repulsed, and treat you like a freak. This was the warning to us. Now we are making what Jesus did for us as useless because we are using it to alienate others not gathering them.

This thread is "What Is The Gospel", it is the first 4 books of the New Testament. Our lifestyle, well if you are a Christian. It definately is not a club for beating others with.
