Now in this same way how can someone loose something that they do not have?

Jigglyfly do you realize that salvation is a definate for all those in Christ Jesus? Do you realize that their is no one that can pluck us out of God's hand? Truthfully, those that fall away are not His children.

John 10:28) And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

If someone where able to pull the Lord's sheep from His hand, this scripture was one that would be broken

Matthew 7:21) Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Now who are those that are saying "Lord, Lord" in this verse? Look at the verses of the gate and the way

Matthew 7:13) Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Matthew 7:14) Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

He is talking of those that call Him Lord in these verses, who claim to be His desciples. Only few actually are and the rest are damned because of lack of knowledge, because they knew not the truth.

Hosea 4:6) "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me

Matthew 7:22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Matthew 7:23) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Make no mistake about, He that started a good work, Our God and Savior, will finish it in a person. The question is has that person claiming born again and salvation and if hey died right now they would go to heaven, really being worked on by God, is there a change that is taking place in that person because in Christ Jesus we are new creatures and are being sanctified by God through His word and His grace. Many today claim that God is working upon them and yet their life has not changed one bit. Unless the Spirit of God moves someone to be convicted, they will not come to repentence.

I think one of the biggest barriers is that many don't seem to agree on what salvation is or includes. Some say it means being born-again, some say it is being saved from hell, others say it is eternal life and so on. We need to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges.

In my experience this is not an area of division, controversy or a barrier. I haven't picked up any confusion about this in the other contributors to this thread.

My understanding is that the Biblical concept of salvation embraces being saved from hell, eternal life, being born again and much more.

Has your reading of the Bible led you to a different conclusion? and if so, it would help if you could offer your understanding of what salvation means in the Bible.

Romans 8:22-25 is another very clear example of what most people in this thread are saying: our salvation has begun, it is assured and we hope for its completion.

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

1Peter 1:5&6
5*And God, in his mighty power, will protect you until you receive this salvation, because you are trusting him. It will be revealed on the last day for all to see. 6*So be truly glad!* There is wonderful joy ahead, even though it is necessary for you to endure many trials for a while.

1Thessalonians 5:8-10
8*But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 9*For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10*who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. 11* Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Hebrews 9:27&28
27*And just as it is destined that each person dies only once and after that comes judgment, 28*so also Christ died only once as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again but not to deal with our sins again. This time he will bring salvation to all those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Copper I posted these three scriptures at the beginning of this thread can you explain them?

Great scripture and was going to post it a little after the three scriptures in the OP are adressed.

So you see that being born again is salvation then ?

The work is His, we must simply believe (faith is already given us) and yield (walk in submission to and the power of the Holy Spirit):
Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

1Th 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Th 5:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

Jesus taught about the talents. One given ten, one given five and finally one given one. The Master responded to each according to his attitude in dealing with what they are given. Personally I believe salvation to be on the same plain. Those who trust Him cannot and will not loose.

Joh 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
Joh 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
Joh 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Joh 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
Joh 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
Joh 17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
Joh 17:7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
Joh 17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
Joh 17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
Joh 17:10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
Joh 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
Joh 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

Plainly the Master will loose nonethat truly place their faith in Him the one who was lost here was a hireling (Judas Iscariot) who followed Jesus hoping for political uprising (humanities power exalted) and to rob the purse.

One who truly trusts Jesus Christ cannot and will not be lost:

1Jn 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

The salvation response

Just because I like the King James version

1 Peter 1:5) Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

1 Peter 1:6) Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations

While we are called unto salvation, a (Matthew 10:24) "The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord." The Lord endured his own set of temptation (although being God He could not sin) and was victorious over them, defeating the enemy and His temptation in Matthew 4. We are in a world were pain and suffering are not uncommon things. We must face trails

Revelation 13:7) "And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them"

We are put through trials to purify us

1 Peter 4:12) Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

The glorification or the completeness of our salvation does not take place until the resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

John 10:28) And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

In Christ we have eternal life and are freed from the law that condemns us to hell.

Romans 8:1) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

We have already been liberated by Christ Jesus and now we eagerly wait his return

Romans 8:19) For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

Romans 8:30) Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

God is omnipotent and knows the beginning to end so who whom God has predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son will not be? Salvation is promised and given to all of them.

--------------------------------------------------------------
1 Thessalonians 5:8) But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

1 Thessalonians 5:9) For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

1 Thessalonians 5:10) Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

Romans 8:21) Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

1 Corinthians 15:52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

This once again is the completeness of our salvation and until it happens we have not escaped corruption because we are still in the flesh, though we walk in the Spirit, we have weakness in our flesh, but when the new incorruptible body appears upon us and we are transformed, only then have we the pure liberation from the body of corruption, thus concluding that salvation has taken place.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hebrews 9:27) And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment

Hebrews 9:28) So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Again we are called to God unto salvation, the reason people consider that we have salvation now is the fact that no one, absolutely no one can pull us out of God's hand for it is written in John 10:29 that "My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand." This said the Lord and now consider the power of this verse.

John 6:39) And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

Do you see the strong reassurance given in the word that none of us as His true believers can be pulled out of His hand by no one nor anything?

Romans 8:38) For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Romans 8:39) Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

It is the assurance that we will obtain salvation why people say they have it, even though it does not show its completeness until the resurrection. Do you know for certain and trust that nothing is able to pluck you out of God's hand? Or do you have doubt that He who started a good work in you is not able to finish it? For the scripture says

Philippians 1:6) Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ

So the question that remains is is God working in a person's life or not? Because "he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ"

So you see that being born again is salvation then?

The answer to that question is in my original post.

This thread is not really going anywhere at the moment. It would help if you could state your position on the subject rather than responding to every post with a further question.

The answer

Romans 8:19) For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

once we are born again, we are waiting for our salvation to take place but until we have our incorruptible bodies, we have not come into salvation because we are in our corruptible bodies.

2 Corinthians 1:22) Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

The Spirit given to us seals us until the day of resurrection and is the earnest of God's promise and the salvation that is going to take place.

Good post Copper and I agree.

SALVATION

Jesus' earthly mission was to save the world from sin and the wrath of God
Matt 1:21
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

John 12:47
47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

Rom 5:9
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
KJV

During His earthly ministry, salvation was brought to us by His presence and the power of faith (Luke 19:9-10).

Now, our salvation is based on His death and resurrection (Mark 10:25).

The salvation that comes through Christ may be described in three tenses: past, present, and future.

1. past When a person believes in Christ, he is saved (Acts 16:31).

Acts 16:31
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

2. present But we are also in the process of being saved from the power of sin (Rom 8:13; Phil 2:12).

Rom 8:13-14
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Phil 2:12-13
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure

3. future Finally, we shall be saved from the very presence of sin (Rom 13:11; Titus 2:12-13).
Rom 13:11
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. KJV

Titus 2:12-13
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

God releases into our lives today the power of Christ's resurrection (Rom 6:4)

Rom 6:4-5
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

and allows us a foretaste of our future life as His children (2 Cor 1:22; Eph 1:14).

2 Cor 1:21-22
21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;
22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Eph 1:13-14
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Our experience of salvation will be complete when Christ returns (Heb 9:28) and the kingdom of God is fully revealed (Matt 13:41-43).
Heb 9:27-28
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Matt 13:40-43
40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

I suggest that the scriptures that you have referenced in 1 Peter, 1 Thessalonians and Hebrews are referring to our future and final attainment of our heavenly salvation.

In addition I suggest that the above scriptures clearly suggest that salvation has a starting point, an ongoing process and an ultimate outcome. Anyone that is not cooperating with the Holy Spirit in the “working out of their own salvation,” on an ongoing basis may not be in a biblical relationship with our Lord?

I believe that the correct answer to your question is that we have our salvation, and the Kingdom of God is within us here on earth, but we do not have our ultimate, heavenly salvation until our Lord’s return when we will have our glorified bodies and be in His presence.

How is it then in John 3:15-16 we are told we HAVE eternal life...

Not will have, pending, but have.
Now, and forever more. Eternal.

1Jn 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

We indeed have eternal life Gracealone. We are God's children born again to a new spiritual life. True some of the outward manifestations will not appear till our Lord's return but that does not change who and what we are. This precious seed of new life grows in us daily and as we mature we begin to see more and more manifestations of the life of God working in us.

Yes, amen....
I know that this corruption must put on in corruption, for this body is of earth earthly. It cannot inherit eternal life, it is our earth suit.....
But the Bible teaches us in John 11:225-26 Jesus speaking:

I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
Believest thou this?

Its not "going" to take place, it has taken place.
We "have" eternal life.......we just havent repaced our earth suits, with our heaven suits Yet, if you like.

Unfortunately this is one of the inconsistancies of translations in the KJV concerning the Hebrew word olam and the Greek words aion and aionios makes things more complicated.

I agree that as long as we trust in Christ we have life because He said himself that He is life. This is confirmed all through the scriptures but we must remain in Him to experience this life.

Look at what Jesus said in John 15.

John 15:4-8
4*Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful apart from me.
5*“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. 6*Anyone who parts from me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. 7*But if you stay joined to me and my words remain in you, you may ask any request you like, and it will be granted! 8*My true disciples produce much fruit. This brings great glory to my Father.

Paul told the believers at Colossi...
Colossians 1:21-23
21*This includes you who were once so far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions, 22*yet now he has brought you back as his friends. He has done this through his death on the cross in his own human body. As a result, he has brought you into the very presence of God, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. 23 But you must continue to believe this truth and stand in it firmly. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News.

And again here Paul writes to the believers at Galatia.

Galatians 5:1-4
1*So Christ has really set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.2*Listen! I, Paul, tell you this: If you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ cannot help you. 3*I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey all of the regulations in the whole law of Moses. 4 For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.

I think that some get distracted and confused. Eternal life or aionian life is an attribute of being connected with Christ. So is eternal life something that we can posses?

These verses are not talking about our eternal salvation, but our works.
Whether they be of our selves, or done in the power of the Holy Spirit.

We, even as Christians lean to much to our own understanding, and go about trying to please God in our own efforts.

I wonder sometimes how often we really go to the Lord, in prayer, and ask him, Lord what should we do about this situation, do you want us to go here, do this?
Do we really seek his face, his precepts, his way ,his truth, his life,
Or do we just start the day, doing what we think is before us to do, and like the two Kings in 1KIngs 22: inquire of false prophets to our detriment?
Are we really in the word, do we seek to understand his word, or just take for granite that what we've been told is true?
Have we ever taken the words we think we understand, and do an exegeses on them to know what they really mean?

We cannot produce spiritual fruit unless we abide in Christ.

What is fruit, in a Christians life?

It isnt salvation, that was a free gift, given by our Lord, and Savior.

Fruit is the works he has given us to do, because of our salvation.

We are either walking in the flesh, or His Spirit. These two are contrary to one another.
One will produce wood, hay stubble, and will be burned, yet so we will be saved, though by fire. 1Cor. 3: 15
The other is fruit through the spirit, producing righteous fruit of the spirit. Romans 7:4-5 The rest of the chapter is good also.

There are many references of fruit...Good fruit, bad fruit...it is most often the results of what our lives produce. :friends:

When you say "we" I assume you include yourself, right?

A wise man once told me that "though I be the greatest Apostle or the youngest babe in Christ when I get to those gates I will have but one leg to stand on and that the shed blood of Jesus Christ."

I have absolute peace in my salvation as the Lord Himself has become my salvation:
Isa 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

Jesus Christ has taken my sin that I might become God's very righteousness. In my Father's eyes there is none more accepted:

2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Jesus is now made unto me all I need to be pleasing to the Father and in Him I have all things pertaining to life and godliness. He is truly God's way and being found in that way I can rest assured that the One who began a good work in me will bring that work to successful conclusion.
Jud 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

As a Christian I rest assured that my salvation is based on the work of Christ. My works will be rewarded but it is not on their basis that I could now nor could I ever enter the kingdom.

God has not given us a spirit of fear and we are to have absolute confidence in His ability to save us.

Php 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Salvation is less about us and all about Him and it is His great desire to save our souls. He indeed gladly paid the highest price for us. Perhaps the following verse reflects His attitude towards us best:

Luk 12:32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

When you say "we" I assume you include yourself, right? <!-- / message --> <!-- sig -->

Of course I do......
We started out all on the same level, as Gods word says......There is none good, no, not one.
Romans 3:10-20

As it is written,There is none righteous, no, not one:

There is none that understand, there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no ,not one.

Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:

Whose mouth is full of cursing, and bitterness:
Their feet are swift to shed blood:

Destruction and misery are in their ways:
And the way of peace have they not known:

There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it sayeth to them who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world become guilty before God.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.......
So, yes, when I say we, I mean we.....

Then we come to Christ, believing all he did for us, and accept this marvelous gift of love, undeserved, unearned, freely given, and we can finally say.......and thats what some of you were.....

Where I had no way, for I was condemned already, he made a way, by taking my place.
Died in my place, that I might have life,in him...
I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.....

The gospel story.

Eternal as the one who came and loved me so......Yes it comes down from we, to me, for he is a personal savior, and he died ,for me.
WE are all guilty before God, but not all will believe so it is a choice.
I, for one, have passed from death to life, through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Amen Lord, Thank you......Come soon.
We watch , and wait, for our redemption, this mortal to put on immortality.....so shall we ever be with you Lord. Amen:friends::love:

Amen Boanerges, like I posted earlier.
I think that some get distracted and confused. Eternal life or aionian life is an attribute of being connected with Christ. So is eternal life something that we can posses?

Again this is why I am not an advocate of either OSAS or NOSAS doctrines. I know some who have posted here think I am a heretic and I would have to agree with them because there are some religious doctrines (man-made) that I don't believe are Truth.
