Ex-Christian?
Two Scriptures that need to be considered in this discussion are Mark 4 :16-18 and 1 Sam 16: 7-8. Many people "sign up" at an altar call and they mean to be real Christians, but at heart they are self-centered, shallow people. They suit up and show up and look and sound like they're the real thing. But they are not truly sincere. Those of the name it and claim it crowd are often good examples of this. When what they've named and claimed doesn't come to them in what they think is a reasonable time, they declare that this Christianity thing doesn't work and they walk away never to return.
"We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first". (Heb 3:14 NIV)

1 John 2:19 declares, They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.”
