He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the LORD has spoken. Isaiah 25:8 NKJV
Life here on earth can be hard, and sometimes well-meaning friends inadvertently make it harder with a platitude like “Just hang in there! Things will get better” when you’re enduring difficult times.
You may have politely thanked your friend for his attempt to speak words of encouragement, but you still walked away wondering if your difficulties would ever end. But one of God’s most amazing promises is that there will come a day when the kinds of earthly difficulties we face will permanently become things of the past. No more pain, no more death, no more tears…only a joyful eternity in our heavenly Father’s presence.
The apostle John echoed the amazing promise from today’s scripture verse when he wrote, “’He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4).
Living on this earth, it’s hard to imagine a time when death, despair, and pain are no longer a part of our existence. But it’s God’s promise to His people, and it’s one that can get us through our most difficult life experiences.
Prayer: During difficult times, Lord, calm my heart with reminders of what is ahead for me.
