A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17 NKJV
What comes to your mind when you think of the word friend? Someone who loves you unconditionally, even when you’re at your worst? Someone who wants to spend time with you, just because? Someone who is willing to sacrifice of himself for you? Someone who speaks gentle words of encouragement—or firm words that challenge or correct you?
You may not have thought of it this way, but Jesus is that kind of friend—and so much more. Jesus is the friend who sacrificed everything for you when He died on the cross so that you could be forgiven for your sins and then live forever with Him in heaven. At this very moment, your friend Jesus intercedes with God on your behalf. And He did all those things not because He had to, but because He and His Father in heaven wanted to.
To paraphrase the old hymn, what a friend you have in Jesus!
Today, take the time to thank Jesus for being not just your Lord and Savior but also the best friend you will ever have.
Prayer: Lord, I want to have true friends—the kind of friends who love me unconditionally and who can encourage me to remain unshaken in the most difficult of times. Thank You for being that kind of friend.
