What makes ministry effective today? It’s easy to think that a great ministry requires excellent speaking skills, lots of money in the bank, and extremely talented people with extensive training and experience calling the shots. If sharing the Gospel with others is such a high calling, wouldn’t we expect to rely on professionals to do it properly? While there’s nothing wrong with training, education, or eloquence, these are not the determining factors for effective ministry. They don’t make or break the way you serve others.
The power of God, displayed in Jesus on the cross and then shared through the Holy Spirit, undermines the systems and rules that many hold dear. The truth is you can accomplish great things through your weakness and inadequacy, because that’s where you will find God’s presence and power. If you can’t think of anything clever to say, all the better! That only ensures that you will depend on the Holy Spirit to give you the words you need…when you need them most.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to look at Your cross and Holy Spirit as the sources of my ministry and my confidence in serving others.
