For exaltation [comes] neither from the east Nor from the west nor from the south. But God [is] the Judge: He puts down one, And exalts another. Psalm 75:6-7 NKJV
In just about every kind of workplace, men try their best, hoping to get a promotion to a higher-paying, more prestigious job. Everyone has heard the story of a guy who started out in the mailroom and worked his way through the ranks to become the departmental vice president.
Good for that guy!
But today’s key verse strongly suggests that in God’s kingdom work, it is He who puts people on the pathway to promotion. Your part in that arrangement is to do what He has for you to do today and to do it well.
Jesus once told the story of a servant who had served his master particularly well. When the master learned of the servant’s work, he told him: “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:21 NIV).
God chooses whom He wants to promote. When you show yourself faithful in doing what He has given you to do, you provide yourself worthy of additional assignments.
Prayer: Loving Father in heaven, help me remember the importance of faithfully doing what You have asked me to do here on earth—leaving the rewards up to You.
