Word of the Day ( I am the Bread of Life)

WORD OF THE DAY (— John 6:35 )
" And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall
never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. "

MEDITATE ON THIS ( The table is set, come let us eat)

The expressed love and image of God is shown to us in the person of Jesus the Christ. Knowing
Jesus is essential to loving Jesus. In the Gospel of John, John records seven statements that we
call the 7 I AMs of Christ. One such account is recorded in John chapter 6 verse 35 in which Jesus says,
"I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Earlier in John chapter 6, Jesus had just performed the miracle of feeding over 5 thousand people with only
five loaves of bread and two small fishes. The Jewish people of the time were not only impressed by this miracle
but would have also related it to a previous miracle that God did for their forefathers in the wilderness. In the book
of Exodus, it is recorded that God called bread or Manna to fall from heaven to feed the Hebrew people. Therefore,
when Jesus likewise multiplied the bread and fish, He was connecting this miracle to the previous miracle done by
God the Father, showing the divine connection.

After the miracle, the people followed Jesus hoping to get more bread for their physical needs. John chapter 6,
verses 31 to 35, reads, "Our fathers did eat Manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to
eat. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my
Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth
life unto the world. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them; I am the bread
of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst."

The people were thinking that the bread given to their ancestors was simply a matter of God meeting their physical
bodily needs. However, Jesus in His response ( I am the bread of life) was pointing to the fact that the previous miracle in
the Old Testament was a foreshadowing of His coming. The coming of the one who would be the real bread of life to satisfy
our souls' deepest hunger. When we come to Jesus and allow Him alone to meet our deepest needs, we will not need to
search for any other. We live in a world where people are starving for truth, and dying to feed their soul something that last.
Neither religion nor the pleasure of the flesh will satisfy what our soul truly needs. Only through a personal relationship
with Jesus will the deepest thirst and hunger of our souls be satisfied. Brothers and sisters, the table is set; come let us
eat and be filled.

Your brother in Christ, WNL

Thought for the week:
Next week, we take a look at another I AM of Christ. "I am the light of the world;
he who believes in me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life."

Prayer for the week:
Dear God, thank you for revealing who you are to us by letting us know that you are the bread of life. My Lord and my savior,
I have heard you knocking at the door. And I have opened it. Thank you for setting the table for me. I wholeheartedly accept
your invitation to dine with you. I will eat and drink, and I will be filled. My soul will no longer hunger or thirst, for you
are indeed the bread of life, and in you, I will be satisfied.
