What Do You ‘See’?

‘Where there is no vision, the people perish.’ Proverbs 29:18 KJV

What do you ‘see’ in your future? What’s your ‘vision’? In 1872 Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, yet one hundred years later African-Americans were still victims of segregation.

During a speech at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963, Dr Martin Luther King Jr expressed his vision in these now famous words: ‘I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the State of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream … of that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing the words of the old Negro spiritual,

There are many verses in scriptures describing dreams from God with the interpretation of those dreams and the fulfillment of them very often being included.

"And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:" Acts 2:17

And then comes the spiritual song for us to sing:

"Joshua fit the battle of Jericho, Jericho, Jericho.

Joshua fit de battle of Jericho An'de walls ... and the walls come tumblin' down."

Is it just a dream or are those walls, [not just the walls of human prejudice], that keep us out of God's Garden and away from the Tree of Life being torn down within us?
