Up and Down the Mountain (1)
'...Jesus took...Peter, James and John...up a high mountain...' Matthew 17:1
There's five things to look at in this story - we'll look at three today and two tomorrow:
1) Not everybody gets to go up the mountain. Jesus didn't take everybody and He didn't explain or apologise to those disciples who stayed behind. He loves us all equally but He doesn't give us all the same experiences with Him. He knows what He's doing, so trust Him.
2) Those who go up the mountain aren't more spiritual. After seeing Jesus glowing with God's glory, Peter blurted out, 'Let's build three tents and stay here.' Peter was keen, but a bit daft too. Learn from his mistake and shut up so you can listen what God has to say, then take steps to make sure you build your life on His Word.
3) God's plan is to make Jesus famous, not you. 'While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him"...
When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus' (Matthew 17: 5-8 NIV). The number one challenge in your life is getting to the place where you focus on 'no one except Jesus.' The most important relationship you have is with Him and the only plan that will work out right is the one He gives you.
