'...I coveted them and took them...' Joshua 7:21
Christmas was three weeks ago now and all of a sudden those trainers you thought were the bomb as you tucked into your turkey feel pretty sad compared to the new style that's just been released. Or what about that new mobile you mithered for months about? Yeah, you were well happy with it until first day back when you found out she had one too! If that sounds a bit like you then you need to pay attention today because it sounds like 'stuff' has got a hold of you.
There's a story from the book of Joshua about the time when things started going wrong for Israel; they started losing battles. Joshua asked God why and God said it was because there was sin in the camp.
When Joshua started doing a bit of detective work one of his soldiers, confessed, 'While we were in Jericho, I saw a beautiful Babylonian robe... and a gold bar... I wanted them for myself, so I took them.' At the end of the story it cost the guy his life and the lives of his family.
When you get jealous about stuff you're basically putting something else in the place of God. If you think you really do need (not just want) something, pray about it and trust God to give it to you! In the meantime be grateful for what He's already given you.
