The cure for loneliness
'Turn to me and be gracious...for I am lonely.' PSALM 25:16
One of the most awful feelings in life is that of loneliness. No matter who you are, where you live or even how many friends you have, everyone goes through times of feeling lonely.
Sometimes there is a good reason and but other times there's no reason, you just do. Jesus knew what it was to feel lonely. Imagine going through life with the closeness of God as your Father, only to be abandoned as you hang on the cross; the time when you need Him most. In those moments Jesus knew what it was to feel totally abandoned and it was probably the loneliest moment anyone has ever endured; after all, even in our loneliest times God has never left our side.
It doesn't always feel like it and you can't always see it at the time but looking back it's obvious. These times are some of the easiest for sin to creep in, a little peek at dodgy web sites or to drown your sorrows with a few sneaky drinks. Satan will tell you that these sorts of things will bring you comfort, make you feel better, or even that you deserve a little pleasure! But it's all lies. These are the times you need to draw closest to God. He's promised to never leave or abandon you and the lonely times can be where your strength comes from.
