The 'Church of Adullam' (1) - Odd ones out?
'ADULLAM...WHERE...ALL WHO WERE DOWN ON THEIR LUCK CAME.' 1 SAMUEL 22:1-2
Ever felt like you don't fit in? Everything around you is falling apart? No-one wants to know? David knew just how you feel. Things got so bad for him, he was completely abandoned and ended up living in the wilderness.
When life's tough you may well feel like that but have hope; it doesn't end there. God won't leave you to swelter in the heat; He'll send help if you ask, but it may not come in the way you expect...
When David was at rock bottom, he went and hid out in a cave called 'Adullam'. He asked God to sort it out and boy did He sort it! God sent David help from the most unexpected places; discontented people, in distress, in debt. 'Each day men came to David to help him. They came until there was a great army, like the army of God' (1 Chronicles 12:22 NLV). Suddenly he had a huge army; things were looking up. Sometimes God will surprise you with who He sends to help.
Don't chuck people away like a bit of rubbish just because they're not 'your kind of person'. He can, and does, use the most unexpected people, and won't leave you by yourself if you ask for help. Why not flip things around today and welcome those odd ones out; you could be helping someone out of their wilderness.
