The BIG E
'...encourage and strengthen him...' Deuteronomy 3:28
Paul was bought a car for Christmas by his brother, a seriously generous gift! One day he came out of his office to find a young lad hanging round it. As he got nearer the young lad said, 'This your car Mr?' 'Yeah,' replied Paul '...it is. My brother gave it to me for Christmas'. 'No way,' said the lad, 'that's amazing, you mean your brother gave it to you and it didn't cost you nothing? I wish...' he hesitated. Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for? He was going to wish to have a brother like that. But what the lad actually said, completely threw him, 'I wish' he said 'that I could be a brother like that'.
So often we can live life looking what we can get rather than what we can give. This lad knew the value of being an encourager.
God asked Moses to 'encourage and strengthen' Joshua so he could take over as leader. Moses had led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. It hadn't been easy, the Israelites were not the best travellers, constantly moaning! This is why it was so important that Moses encouraged Joshua. He understood what the job was about.
God wants us to encourage each other to help us through our lives: '...encourage one another daily... so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.' (Hebrews 3:13) So today, GO ENCOURAGE!
