Taking responsibility (2)
'A man reaps what he sows.' GALATIANS 6:7
In 2002, Edward Brewer sued Providence Hospital for $2 million. He claimed that the hospital was negligent because it had not prevented him from raping one of its patients. We live in such a bizarre blame culture that in this case it wasn't even the female rape victim blaming the hospital security for this awful incident, it was the rapist. Talk about not taking responsibility for your own actions! Fortunately in this case the judge had a bit more sense and ruled that any damage Brewer suffered due to his crime was his own responsibility not the hospitals fault!
Although it seems crazy, this is an extreme example of what we can do everyday. If we break something we claim the item wasn't strong enough, we burn something and blame the cooking time on the packet. Late for school? Bus's fault. Forgot homework? Mum's fault for not waking you up in time.
News flash: Being young does not give you the right to blame everyone else for everything. If your uniform isn't clean, clean it. Phone credit's run out? Stop texting nonsense. Late for school? Set an alarm and stop relying on people to drag you out of bed. There comes a point when you can't keep blaming other people and that point is not when you've grown up or when you're a parent, it's right now.
