Take a leap of faith (1)
'... You give them something to eat.' Matthew 14:16
Imagine this: you're in a popular band and the lead singer decides you're going to do a random freebie gig out in the sticks. You set off, stage and lighting arrives and word spreads. People appear in their masses. The show begins. It's amazing: the crowd are pumped, the beat goes on and you keep on playing. It's getting late, you're in a field in the middle of nowhere with a crowd of thousands but there's no burger vans, kebab heaven or chunky chips anywhere!
During the next musical interlude you say, 'Look guys, as good as this is, we're going to have to stop. Look at all these people, look where we are; we need to send them away so they can get some grub. They'll be starving soon.' The lead singer says, 'Go on then, you feed them,' and you laugh: 'Nice one mate, very funny.' But He's serious. He's expecting you to feed them all!
Now you've got some idea of what the disciples felt like. A crowd of over 5,000 hungry people. Surely sending them home seemed like the best plan? But Jesus used the moment to teach them something. The disciples had a choice: put their faith in Jesus or bottle it! They choose to act on their faith and saw over 5,000 people being fed from one tiny packed lunch. A miracle! Something they'd have never seen if they'd bottled it. Don't just have faith, act on it!
