Stewardship (3) - Who's pulling the strings?

'..."Well done, good and faithful servant ..."' Matthew 25:21

The next thing to learn is that God isn't a puppeteer! We're not in some Punch and Judy show where God's written the script, pulling the strings to make us do what He wants, when He wants and how He wants, with Him speaking for us. No way!

When God gives us good things, whether that's financial, gifts, or skills, He won't force us to use them well. It's entirely up to us. We have the freedom to run our own show, to mess it up or make it amazing and grow what He's given us. Looking at the parable of the talents again, we see that the first two servants made their money grow, whereas the third wimped out and just buried what he had been given, not doing anything positive with it. He was scared he wouldn't be able to do enough, and the master would be mad; so instead he did diddly squat.

Not good enough, the master says. It's easy to read the story and think he was an idiot, but sometimes we may find we're doing that with God too: we're scared to use what He's given us in case we don't get it right. But remember God won't ask you to do anything you can't. By His grace, you can do all things that He asks of you. So don't wait for Him to pull the strings, do it yourself.
