Stewardship (2) personal responsibility
'... He gave ... to each according to his own ability ...' Matthew 25:15
Today, let's take a look at the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30.
A man going on a trip divides up his money among his servants to take care of it for them. You'll notice Jesus points out a really key thing; the man distributes to each servant 'according to his own ability'. God knows what you can handle and He won't give you more, so don't ask Him to. The master didn't burden the one-talent guy with a five-talent responsibility, or vice versa. Now we're not saying that those who have lots of stuff are the best stewards, or that those who have less must be poor stewards but God knows each of us intimately, and He deals with us according to that knowledge. You won't have to answer for what God didn't give you, or what He gave someone else. You're only responsible for yourself.
Whatever God's entrusted to you to manage, He's done so knowing you're capable of handling it. So if you feel your mate's got it all and you're a bit jealous; just remember, they've got all the responsibility with how they deal with it too, and they'll have to answer to God about it. And if it's you that's got it all, don't go bragging to your mates and showing off. Instead, remember your responsibility to do the right thing. Whatever you've got, ask God what He wants you to do with your lot to glorify Him.
