S-T-R-E-S-S! Unless you're one of those one-in-a-million people who just breeze through life as if nothing at all is a problem you probably get hit by the 'S' word every single day. You scuff your new shoes, the bus goes past and doesn't stop, the battery on your phone dies, next door's stupid dog starts barking in the night and wakes you up... nnnNNNGGG!!! Mark's gospel says, 'When they were alone, [Jesus] explained all things to His disciples.' There are things the Lord will reveal to you only when you get one-to-one with Him.
In her book High Call, High Privilege Gail MacDonald writes about the ancient Desert Fathers, christians who lived in the Egyptian desert about 300 years after Jesus, revealing they used '... silence, solitude and inner peace. Only after adequate amounts of time listening, did they consider themselves ready to speak...Among many Christians today there's a strange...logic that spiritual resource and renewal are found in constantly seeking new voices, attending more meetings, listening to incessant music, and gathering to exchange half-thought-out opinions.'
You can be sure that the ancient desert dudes were not stressed! They learned the secret that sometimes less is more. A minute of silence with God is more powerful than a whole week of words without Him. Bottom line: You need one-on-one time with God! Take some time out today to just be silent with Him; see how long you can listen for ;-)
