Remember your first love?
'Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing."' John 21:3
Some conversations make you just want to die inside by the power of 'The cringe!' Like, when your Mum has had one too many Bacardi Breezers and she slurs out the corner of her mouth 'Let me tell you how me and yer Dad first met'. Er, let's not! Too much information. Thing is, when you're feeling 'loved up', you can't help but want to relive that first romantic encounter. You may even visit that 'special place' to spark off those special memories. Perhaps, that's what Peter was doing, the night he decided to go fishing. With Jesus out of his life, (or so he thought), a trip to the place where he first met Him, might spark off some memories of the incredible journey they had shared together.
Does this ring any bells with you? Do you feel like Jesus is now out of your life? Well, get back to the place you first met Him: The cross. Lay it all down at the foot of the cross, remember your first love, recommit yourself to Him. Some people think, Peter may have returned to what he was doing before he met Jesus: Fishing. But the story says he caught no fish. Are you discouraged? Thinking of returning to your old life before you met Jesus. There's no fish there anymore. That old life is an empty life. Stick with God, take heart.
