REAL WORSHIP
'REAL WORSHIP ' ISAIAH 58:6
"Its no coincidence that in the scriptures poverty is mentioned more than 2100 times...That's a lot of airtime". Bono, famous for huge stadium gigs and record breaking albums, said this in front of world leaders in Washington reminding them that God cares about the poor. Rock stars, politicians, grannies, even teenagers!
Throughout history God has caused people to speak up and stand out on behalf of the lost and least. He's still doing it today. Isaiah 58 says "I tell you what it really means to worship the LORD.
Remove the chains of prisoners who are chained unjustly. Free those who are abused! Share your food with everyone who is hungry; share your home with the poor and homeless. Give clothes to those in need; don't turn away your relatives" There is a women's prison in Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world, where 20 people sleep in the cell the size of your bedroom. Over 80% of the women there have never even had a trial. Too hard to get your head around?
OK, what about the kids in your school, whose parents show them violence more than love, who get no breakfast, then when they get to school are called names for being smelly and scruffy, while you keep quiet. Worship is when we speak out, when we get alongside, when we give ourselves to God, and the people made in his image. Worship God today.
