Practice makes perfect
'Teach...your children and...their children after them.' DEUTERONOMY 4:9
It might scare the nappy off you now to think about having a kid, but one day you might find yourself having your very own sproglet. The thing about kids is that they copy everything you do, its how they learn.
Try this on for size, imagine having somebody following you around everywhere you go, copying every single thing you do. How embarrassing could it be! You're sat at dear old Auntie Ethel's for a nice slice of Kipling, when your little mini-me lets out a string of verbal abuse. Well you can't blame him, he's only repeating what he's heard you say with your mates.
Or imagine, being with your best friend, and mini-me tells them what you really think of them, well he's only copying what you've said when you've stuck the knife in behind their back. Every parent knows that if you want your little one to have good manners, you have to model good manners to them. If you want your bundle of joy to being a kind person, you have to show them how to be kind.
Could there be a bit of wisdom in there for us too? If we want to be better people, we need to copy our heavenly parent. If we want to be more like Jesus, we need to find out what sets His heart ticking, and start practising a bit of the same.
