Night vision (2)
'Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil' Psalm 23:4
Psalm 23 is amazing in all sorts of ways, one of which is this: David goes from talking about God, 'The Lord is my Shepherd,' to talking with Him, 'You are with me.' What happened in between? David learned that no matter how dark the way is, God is there to guide us by the hand. He realised that it's better to walk through the dark valley with God than stand on the mountaintop alone.
God doesn't always send you places where the sun is shining, but He promises, 'When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.' (Isaiah 43:2 NIV).
When you feel like you're out of your depth or in over your head, claim that promise! When you can't find the reason, trust the relationship. God won't fail you. It's amazing just how many of the important steps forward taken by people in the bible happened in the darkness. Another one of the famous Psalms gets this point across really poetically, '...the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.' (Psalm 139:12 NIV). So instead of running from the darkness today, ask God to develop your night vision, to show you 'the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places' (NIV).
