Mustn't grumble
'Do all things without complaining' PHILIPPIANS 2:14
So, we might never win the World Cup or trounce the Aussies at cricket, but if moaning was a sport, wouldn't us Brits be the reigning Olympic champions? There'd be Gold medals for groaning about the weather, league titles for griping at the government, and the ashes awarded for that great British grumble, 'You wait an hour for one bus then three come at once'. Aren't we hard done to? Don't we warrant a whinge? Actually, no. Not in the face of a few hard facts.
Fact 1: Life expectancy in this country is 80 years. Life expectancy in the developing world is half that.
Fact 2: It would take 5 billion pounds to provide safe water world-wide and 7 billion pounds to provide basic health care and nutrition globally. However, we spend way more than that every year shopping down the high street!
Fact 3: 21 children die every minute from poverty related causes in the developing world. The point is if you're going to moan; moan about something worth moaning about.
By all means nag about the injustice of this world. Complain about the poverty which destroys life. Make a noise about the West's indifference to the rest of the planet. But be thankful for what you've got. A final thought: if somebody gave you a quid every time you complained and collected one every time you were thankful; would you be loaded or stony broke?
