Mind games
'Pulling down...strong holds; Casting down imaginations... bringing into captivity every thought.' 2 CORINTHIANS 10:4:5
Paul writes: 'Pulling down...strong holds; Casting down imaginations... bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.' It all sounds a bit A-level theology, but all he's saying, is 'get a grip'. Pulling down strongholds means getting a grip on the junk in your life before it gets a grip on you.
Do you need to sort some attitudes out? Do it, take control before its taken control of you. Casting down imaginations means don't let your mind run away with itself, making up a load of tosh about God not caring and all that, of course He cares, get back to the truth of it, stop believing your own fiction.
Bringing into captivity every thought means get a fishing line on those wild leaping thoughts that do you no good. If your thoughts say 'I'm useless', kick them into touch with God's Word, He says 'You're precious'. The mind is a tricky old thing, you'd think it was on our side, but if we don't take control of it, it can work against you, making up lies.
Here's the good news, it's your mind, you tell it what to think about and what not. You wouldn't let your own foot kick you in your own groin, so don't let your mind kick itself in the head. So there you are, now you understand A-level theology, smarty pants.
