Light feet
'Blessed are those who have learned to...walk in the light of your presence' PSALM 89:15
Wouldn't it be nice if God just handed you a book of your entire life right now. You could flick through the chapters about your jobs, relationships, money, dreams and ambitions. You could skim read all the outcomes of your life choices. It would save you a whole lot of worrying and stressing in the here-and-now about whether you'll ever find that 'special someone'. Or how you'll ever pay that money you owe. Or do you ever conquer that re-occurring struggle? It might seem a nice idea, but that's not how God works.
The Psalmist said, 'Blessed are those who have learned to...walk in the light of your presence...' (Psalm 89:15 NIV). In ancient European monasteries monks walked dark corridors with candles on the toes of their shoes, giving them just enough light to see the next step. That's how God leads us. Just enough light to see our next steps. We might pray to God over direction in something, and then complain that He's not listening just because He hasn't sent the floodlights on our entire future. With God, it's never the full floodlit laser lightshow, it's more like the small flickers of a candle.
There's enough glow to stop us tripping over our own feet, but it's only a little glimmer in order that we keep our hand firmly placed in our Father's hand; in order that we walk in the light of His presence.
