Let it go (1) - Shred it

'Forget what has happened before, and do not think about the past.' ISAIAH 43:18

What do you do when your memory drags crud from the past, and makes it seem real now, making it hurt all over again? Today's verse looks at letting go.

Unless you decide to let it go, your past can, and will, infect your present, and influence your future. God doesn't want that for you, so we're going to look at it over the next few days.

First, you need to let go of what God has forgiven! When you confess sin to God and say sorry, He forgives and forgets; instantly!

Imagine you write down the wrong stuff you've done, in detail, and every time you look at it you feel bad.

When you confess, God takes that paper, and shreds it beyond recognition; it's gone, rubbish, it is no more. You don't have it to remind you anymore. But if you don't let go of what God's forgiven, it's like you going through the bin, spending ages picking out all the bits, and painstakingly sticking them all back together. You wouldn't do that in real life, so don't do it with God;

He shredded it deliberately, because once you've said sorry, it's gone. And what if you don't feel forgiven? Well, you don't feel oxygen, but you don't use that as a reason to stop breathing, do you! If you don't feel forgiven, just act like you are, and over time, you'll start to feel it too.
