Lessons from Lazarus (1) - back from the dead
'But even now I know' JOHN 11:22
Lazarus; the second most famous guy to die and come back to life! Not surprisingly, we can learn loads of stuff from his story, and we're going to look at that over the next two days. Lesson one: Jesus knows how you feel. He knows what it's like to lose someone you care about (read John 11:35-36). God isn't a holy power-pack who raises the dead, He totally sympathises with us too.
Lesson two: Jesus can give you back what life's taken from you. Claim the promise of Joel 2:25. Martha (Laz's sister) realized that with God, it's never too late. She said '..."Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You"' (John 11:21-22 NKJV). Don't pray 'if only', but pray 'even now I know', with faith that God can do it.
Lesson three: Jesus can set you free. Read the story in John 11 for yourself, and see how God's Word was greater than the grave clothes that bound Lazarus; and it's greater than whatever it is that binds or limits you. You may not completely understand it, but trust that He knows what you're going through, He can restore what you've lost, and He will set you free; pray that your faith will grow, and you'll be amazed that things that seem impossible will be changed by God.
