Learning from others

'A king rejoices in wise servants ...' Proverbs 14:35

OK, so none of us likes other people butting into our lives where they're not wanted, chipping in their opinion or throwing in their advice, about what we're doing or how we're doing it. Rather than listen we tell people to 'shut it'. Rather than ask we say, 'I know.' 1 Peter 4:10 says; 'God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another' (NLT).

This means you are able to help others with the things you know and can do and others are able to help you with the things they know and can do. This is how God intended us to live. So we need to sack off any 'shut it, I know!' attitude we have. The Bible calls this being wise - something God wants us all to be; 'Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom.' (Proverbs 4:7 NIV). There are over 200 references to wisdom in the Bible -so we can safely say it's important to God.

Being wise isn't about being really clever. It's about gaining understanding about God and how He wants us to live. And guess what? God's got it in the bucket-loads and He gives it for free - as much as we want! All we need to do is ask; 'If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you' (James 1:5 NLT). Well what are you waiting for - ask! Just say the word and it's yours.
