As Mr. Wartface paces the length of your history classroom delivering his mind-numbingly dull lectures on crop rotation in the 14th century - what do you jot down in your exercise book, detailed notes of old Wartface's teaching? You'll reflect on the man's genius in between Hollyoaks and Eastenders tonight and scribble the gist of what he's saying. Then close your book and never return to the page again. You practice your new soon-to-be-married signature. One day Troy Bolton will be your spouse, even though he is only a fictional character in a make-believe Disney musical.
I wonder if your note-taking reflects your approach to learning from life. Some of us drift through life, never really taking anything in.
Like C's, we never really listen, we're too preoccupied with our fantasies to ever learn anything worthwhile.
Some of us are B's. We get lots of knowledge, we're intelligent in one way, but we don't have understanding, we don't grow from our knowledge.
Some of us are A's, the conscientious types. We not only make a record of what we experience, but we take the time to reflect on it, to learn from it, to gain in wisdom and grow as a person.
To get the best out of life you need to turn what you know into how you live. 'Foolish dreamers live in a world of illusion; wise realists plant their feet on the ground' (Proverbs 14:18 TM).
