How Much?
'...you are precious to me...I love you...' Isaiah 43:4
'How much are the puppies?' the boy asked the pet shop owner. 'Anything from 30 pounds to 50 pounds' he replied. 'Can I have a look at them?'
One puppy was lagging behind the rest and straight away the boy asked, 'What's wrong with that one?' The pup didn't have a hip socket. It would always limp. 'That's the one I want to buy.' said the boy. 'You don't want to buy that little dog', said the shopkeeper. 'If you really want him, I'll just give him to you.' The boy looked sad. 'I don't want you to give him to me. That little dog is worth every bit as much as all the other dogs and I'll pay full price'.
The shopkeeper insisted, 'You really don't want to buy this one. He's never going to be able to play like the other puppies.' The boy stood back from the counter and revealed his own badly twisted leg, supported by a metal brace, 'Well I don't run so well myself, and this little puppy will need someone who understands!'
We can sometimes think we are useless, not worth as much as everyone else; but Jesus knows differently, 'But God shows his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while were still sinners' (Romans 5:8 NCV).
Psalm 139 says 'You know my thoughts... You know where I go... You know everything I do...' We can sometimes think that no-one understands us, but God does!
