Hearts and thieves

'If the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched.' MATTHEW 24:43

We don't want our stuff nicked, so we double lock our houses, we insure our phones, we hold onto our purses for dear life; but what about our hearts, don't we need to guard them as well? Three things to look out for:

1) be careful when you're cream-crackered. Esau wasn't with it, in fact he was so shattered his marbles had left him, all for the sake of a bit of supper. He made a very stupid decision that haunted him for a long time. Read it in Genesis 25:19-34 and don't say things you don't mean just because you've got a rumbling tum and you're in a bit of a mood.

2) be careful you don't get carried away. King Herod was a bit of a loose cannon. Seduced by a dancing girl, he shot his mouth off saying, 'Whatever you ask me, I will give you' (Mark 6:23 NKJV). She asked for the head of John the Baptist. A moment of excitement cost him dearly. Beware of moments of pleasure that will cost you everything

3) be careful of lack of courage. Peter messed up big time, when he lost his bottle. He swore blind he'd never even met his best mate: Jesus. A weak moment can make you say things you don't mean. Esau being cream-crackered, Herod being a loose cannon, Peter being a coward. If only they'd double locked their hearts at the right moment.
