Happiness isn't found on a hanger
'Happy is he...whose hope is in the Lord' PSALM 146:5
Whoever said money can't buy happiness, just didn't know where to shop, right? The Bible doesn't include the verse 'Happy is the girl with her Dad's credit card in Top Shop' or 'Blessed is the boy spendin' his birthday cash in Gamestation'. It might seem that way at times, but if time has taught Britain anything, it's that however much dosh you blow you're always left wanting more; you're always left feeling curiously empty. That's how this credit crunch got started, isn't it? People spending cash they never had in the first place in order to purchase 'happiness'. Happiness isn't found on a hanger in Miss Selfridges, girls. Nor can it be downloaded on to your Shuffle, boys.
'Happy is he (or she)...whose hope is in The Lord', the psalmist sang. Dead right. Clothes go out of season; this year's 'wet-look leggings' are next years shoulder pads (ask your Mum). Technology evolves; today's Apple Mac is tomorrow's ZX Spectrum (ask your Dad).
The only constant we have in life is God. He's never old fashioned or out of touch. His hard-drive never fails you. He never rusts, busts or burns out. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. So if you think happiness is only your next purchase away, you're always going to be left feeling bankrupt inside. Isn't it time you started to cash all your cheques in the bank of God?
