Good or goody-two-shoes?
'Never walk away from someone who deserves help ...' Proverbs 3:27
Dan Clark tells the story of a time when he and his dad were queuing for the circus, behind a really poor family who were so excited it was obvious they had never been to the circus before.
You could tell, just by looking at them. The attendant asked how many tickets, and the man proudly replied 'I'd like to buy eight children's tickets and two adults'. But when the attendant said the price, the man's wife dropped his hand, and her head drooped.
The man leaned in and said 'How much ...?' The attendant repeated the price. The man obviously didn't have the money - he looked crushed.
Behind them, Dan's dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out 20 pounds and dropped it on the floor. Then he tapped the man on the shoulder, picked up the money, and said, 'Excuse me, I think this must be yours.' The man knew exactly what was going on. He looked straight into Dan's father's eyes, took his hand, shook it, and with a tear streaming down his cheek replied, 'Thank you, thank you, sir. This really means a lot to me and my family.'
There wasn't enough money for Dan and his dad to go to the circus anymore, so they got in the car and drove home. But it didn't matter to them. They'd blessed a whole family, and none of them would ever forget that. That's called doing good; can you see any good you could do today?
