'And Elisha ... saw him no more ...' 2 Kings 2:12

Some dynamic duos are just destined to be: Batman and Robin; Laurel and Hardy; Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The Bible also points out a perfect pairing in Elijah and Elisha. This couple were inseparable until one day '... a chariot of fire ... separated the two ... Elijah went ... into heaven. And Elisha ... saw him no more ...' (2 Kings 2:11-12 NKJ). Elisha, the right-hand man is suddenly without a man to shadow.

There are times in life when we must go on alone, and draw from God the strength to do it. Alone at the River Jordan, Elisha '...took up the mantle of Elijah...struck the water...the water...divided...and Elisha crossed over' (2 Kings 2:13-14 NKJ). Crossing the Jordan was Elisha's first steps alone - except he wasn't really alone, God was with him. Those looking on were soon saying, 'The spirit of Elijah lives in Elisha!' Later, in 2 Kings 2:19-22 we see that 'spirit of Elijah' as God uses Elisha to heal the pollution from a whole town's water supply.

Any worries Elisha had about filling Elijah-sized shoes in the miracle stakes are quashed here. Another time (2 Kings 2:23) near Bethel, Elisha is publicly dissed but God gets the last word in via a full-on bear massacre (No, really, read it for yourself). The point is, time and time again, Elisha doesn't need Elijah, he has God. Likewise, you're not alone - you have God.
