'He gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul' PSALM 106:15
Have you ever seen a child whining on to their mum for another ice-cream? Mum says no, they whine on, mum says no, they get louder, mum says no, they scream that they want one; in the end, mum gives in and lets the child have an ice-cream. Then, 9 times out of 10, the kid feels sick after it. The mum knew best, and was saying no out of love, but the kid just wouldn't let it lie!
Sometimes, we can be like that with God; we think we know better than Him, and though He may be stopping us from doing something in His wisdom, if we keep on and on at Him, He may step back and let us have it our way; but that doesn't mean it'll always work for the best, just like the kid with the ice cream.
After God brought His people through the Red Sea, they soon forgot what He'd done, and tested Him and He gave them what they asked, providing physically but 'sent leanness into their soul'. They were spiritually empty, 'cos they did things their way. Check out Exodus 2:11-14, when Moses took things in his own hands he couldn't even keep one soldier that he killed buried in the sand. But doing it God's way later, a whole army was buried in the Red Sea! So today, make up your mind to do it God's way; it's so much better!
