Go 'a little farther
'He went a little farther...and prayed' MARK 14:35
Throughout history God has looked for men and women to passionately pray on behalf of a lost world. More often than not, He's been disappointed. '...I sought for a man...who would...stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one' (Ezekiel 22:30 NKJV).
The disciples were willing to go with Jesus into the garden of Gethsemane but they didn't get how important it was to pray that night and all fell asleep. Even Peter, James and John, the guys in the inner circle, didn't 'get it,' so in the end Jesus went 'a little farther' and prayed alone. Prayer can be a lonely business and you have to stick at it. You can go for months and years before seeing some of the changes that you've prayed so hard about.
On the other hand, when you go deeper with God, you get to share things that the disciples missed and only angels got to see to that night in the garden. Why not get your youth group to set up a 24/7 prayer room for a week, or turn your bedroom into your own garden of Gethsemane and give up some sleep to go deeper with God? You could even join the grannies at your church for the early morning prayer meeting! How about it, is God calling you to go 'a little farther?'
