Give peace a chance
'...the wisdom that is from above is...peaceable...' James 3:17
Peace, man, peace! When we think of 'peace', our heads might jump to a picture of a middle-aged man with long, girly hair, puffing on a pipe full of 'waccy-baccy'. It's as if the hippies copyrighted the word. But the Bible had a lot to say about peace long before those hemp wearing tree-huggers got a whiff of it. James 3:18 tells us that God's Word is 'sown in peace'. Colossians 3:15 tells us 'the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other...' Even Jesus, himself, promises us, 'My peace I leave with you'. So, why the big deal? Because it's God's way. And what happens when we live God's way? We develop care and concern for others. We gain a kick in our step. We get passion and compassion for those in need. We want to bring peace to the places where there's destruction.
The world's way is to 'look after number one', God's way is to 'discover the beauty in everyone'. Do you know someone who seriously tests your patience? You know the type, they could turn Ghandi into the Karate Kid, they just have that knack of winding people up. Well, next time they're testing your peace, rather than hit back in retaliation, ask God to reveal their beauty to you, ask God to show to you how He sees them. Exercise self-control and keep your peace!
