'Be an example... in the way you live' 1 TIMOTHY 4:12
Behind the set, actors get ready preparing for the show that's soon to take place. How they appear back stage is very different to how they will soon behave during their performance. Lights and action! The play begins and all their focus and attention is about what's happening on stage, all they're thinking about is delivering their lines well, in the right place and time. When it ends, they're back to being their normal selves, they dress and act differently and their thoughts are no longer all about the show! That's ok though! They're an actor, that's how it is!
If we are not careful, we can find ourselves living life as a Christian like an actor. In church we will be one character, focused on how to live as a Christian. We will speak and behave in a certain way and pray, worship, read the Bible, but then when we come home we live and act in a totally different way.
Today God is saying, 'Be an example...in the way you live.' All the time! So get your act together. Be a good example no matter where you are or who you are with: 'In every way be an example of doing good deeds....speak the truth so that you cannot be criticised. Then those who are against you will be ashamed because there is nothing bad to say about us' (Titus 2:7-8 NCV).
