Get sporty
'The fastest runner doesn't always win the race' Ecclesiastes 9:11
Whatever the weather, whatever your fitness level, PE teachers seem determined to make each and every one of us an enthusiast for all things sporty. But if you've not caught the fitness bug yourself, any exercise - and especially that Friday afternoon cross country race - can leave you feeling like your legs are made of lead, your lungs have been punctured and at any moment your heart's going to jump out of your chest in protest.
The Bible says that our life is like a race. But it's not about being the fastest: 'The fastest runner doesn't always win the race'. It's not about speed or finesse - it's actually about staying power: 'Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us ... by keeping our eyes on Jesus ... then you won't become weary and give up' (Heb. 12:1-3 NLT).
The race of life is about sticking with Jesus every step of the way, hanging on in there with Him in every situation. When Jesus lived on earth, He never gave up. He kept His focus, always doing what God was asking Him to do. Even at the tender age of 12, He told His parents 'I must be about my Father's business' (Luke 2:49 NKJ). So you've got no excuse putting this off until you're older. The time to stick with Jesus and run the race of life is now.
