Everybody needs somebody (2)

'They committed themselves to the teaching of the apostles, [and]...life together...' Acts 2:42

Don't you just hate those American style stores where some Saturday girl reels off in your face, 'Have a nice day'. She couldn't care less whether your day consisted of being repeatedly poked in the eye with a biro, she's just told to say it, because that's the company line.

Not so fast though, perhaps we do the same with people at church. Have you ever said, 'I'll pray for you' knowing full well you won't, you just said it because that's the company line.

Don't you think that person can tell the difference between the company line and somebody who is genuinely concerned for their welfare? Don't you think God knows the difference?

When we commit ourselves to each other like the early church did, actions speak louder than words. We pray for someone, not out of duty or because it's on the job description, we do it because we feel their hurt, we want God's good in their situation, we love them as we love ourselves.

When a man and a woman commit themselves to each other in marriage, they're committing themselves to the bad times as well as the good, that's why we have the famous line, 'For richer, for poorer, for better, for worse'. What if we were to commit ourselves like that to the people God has placed in our church. For better or worse.
