Equipping people to serve
'He...gave gifts...to equip God's people...and build up...the church.' EPHESIANS 4:8:12
Different people have different gifts or talents, your gift or talent will be totally different from your mates. You gifts and talents are given to you ultimately to serve God with. In The Message's version of Ephesians 4 it talks about different gifts by saying 'he handed out gifts from above and below, filled heaven with his gifts, filled earth with his gifts. He handed out gifts of an apostle, prophet, evangelist and pastor-teacher to train Christians in skilled servant work...till we are moving rhythmically and easily with each other'. So all of us have a unique set of talents to help us all get along. What we have to figure out is 'what's my gift?'
Until that question is answered you can feel a bit out of place, a bit like a striker playing in defence. You can get by; but never be truly excellent. Some people are called to be leaders; that may be you? If it is then you're gifted in helping people succeed. Why do people need to be helped like this? So they can serve God better. Why is serving God so important? To help the church be stronger to impact the world more positively. That's why it's so important to get what your gift is. You'll enjoy your life so much more once you figure out 'What's my gift'? Make sure you pray about it today.
