Chill!
'By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.' Genesis 2:2
Get this; God doesn't get tired! (Psalm 121:4) So what's He doing taking a rest then eh? Could it be that rest isn't just about stopping when you're tired to 'recharge your batteries'? Could it be that God is telling us something important? When God rested, He was telling us we need to rest too! So how exactly did God do it?
1) He rested after he had worked; sorry if you were thinking 'YAY I can rest all the time God says!' We too need to work first and then rest!
2) He worked 6/7 of the week and rested 1/7; when we come back from holiday, we can want to stay in 'holiday mode', and start dreaming of holidaying all year round. But God's way for our lives is about getting the right balance.
3) He blessed His rest time; He set it apart as something different. He gave a rule to live by (commandment 4 in Exodus 20) that our rest must be a priority, something special, different than any other day.
4) He used it to look back on all His work; we too need to regularly look back at what we've been doing and how we've been living, to avoid making the same mistakes. God was able to look back and call everything 'very good.' Can you look back on your last week and say the same? Take time to chill!
