Be a convict for Christ!
'Run from temptations that capture young people. Always do the right thing ...' 2 Timothy 2:22
Did that scripture confuse you? Is it not more likely you'll end up in black stripes and living behind bars for doing the wrong thing? Let me explain. First, you need to know what the word 'convict' or 'conviction' actually means. It simply means being convinced. So being a convict for Christ doesn't mean you have to end up in prison. It does mean that you need to be convinced of the way God wants you to live, and stick to it.
Understanding what the right thing is before you even get into a sticky situation will really help you be able to run away from it, and 'do the right thing'. So, what's the key to being convinced?
The first way is to really get stuck into God's word. Soak it up like a sponge, ask questions, get people to help you make sense of it; then hold it up next to your life like a mirror and see if it matches. If it doesn't, start to make changes in the way you live. Before you know it, you'll find that you're getting 'more convinced', and you'll instinctively know what's hot and what's not when temptation comes your way.
Secondly, talk to God. Ask Him what He wants you to be doing, before things get tough. Ask Him to convince you of the right way to live. Ask Him to show you what you need to change. Go on; be a convict for Christ!
