Be a baby again
'... everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.' John 3:15
It's easy to sometimes read the Bible and get a bit confused isn't it? That's where stories like this one of Nicodemus are great; here was a teacher, and even he didn't get it when JC told him he had to be 'born again'! It's OK to not get things straight away, but Jesus wants us (like Nic) to stick at it until it makes sense.
So what exactly does it mean to be 'born again'? Well, I don't know if you've ever seen a newborn baby, but they don't do much other than eat, sleep, cry and fill nappies! The baby lets the parents do the work; and that's what God wants for us.
It's as simple as looking to the Father, and looking to His Son, and only then can we truly live. We expect life to be way more complicated than that. I mean, you can't even join Blockbuster without jumping through hoops!
Surely, we think, we have to do more stuff to get eternal life? Well, according to Jesus, apparently not. All we have to do is believe. Trust. Just like you trust the air around you has enough oxygen for you to breathe, just like you trust a chair every time you sit down, just like a baby trusts their parents for food.
Trust the power of God that you can't see to do what you can't imagine, and you, like Nic, may suddenly 'get it'.
