Actions speak louder than words
'The integrity of the honest keeps them on track' Proverbs 11:3
OK then guys, be honest with yourself: how many of you would have handled this situation the same as Joseph? In Genesis 39, we read how Joseph, after being left for dead by his brothers, now has a top job in Potiphar's Crib. Potiphar was chief of the Egyptian king's bodyguard, so it was a pretty swanky pad.
His wife, who's clearly a bit lush, gets the hots for young Joe and one day, when her husband's away, invites him upstairs: 'Come and sleep with me.' Be honest, what would you have done? Joseph says, 'My master trusts me with everything in his entire household. No one here has more authority than I do. He has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God.' And he walks away.
Would you have done the same? Joseph refused the advances of Potiphar's wife, not because he thought he couldn't get away with it, but because he knew he couldn't live with himself if he accepted them. Joseph was a man of integrity. His relationship with God was more important to him than anything else. He lived his life by what he believed; his actions spoke the same as his words. What about you? The Bible says that, 'The integrity of the honest keeps them on track'. Can people tell by your actions that God comes first in your life?
