3 kinds of Belonging
'...you are...fellow citizens...members of God's
household... a holy temple...' Ephesians 2:19-21
Do you know that you can enjoy God's presence at any time? You are 'No longer strangers...but fellow citizens...of the household of God...a holy temple' (NKJV). Let's unpack what that means:
1) as 'fellow citizens' we represent God on the earth. We're His 'ambassadors' (2 Corinthians 5:20). 'What does an ambassador do?' Well it's a lot more than putting on posh parties where people eat chocolate! The ambassador lives in a foreign country showing everyone who lives there how amazing his home country is. He doesn't belong there permanently, he could be called home at a moment's notice. Getting the idea?
2) because we belong to the 'household of God' we can open the door to God at any time, with any need, and know that we'll be met with love. God is the father you always hoped for and you are the child He always wanted. If you have any doubts, look at the cross; that's how much God loves you.
3) we are 'a holy temple.' In the Old Testament God had a temple for His people, but now God has a people for His temple. What's the difference? Well are you made of stone?! The Bible says, 'Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?' (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV). Just like the temple of old your life now displays the awesome greatness of God!
