Youth Of Today, Tsch!
'Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young' 1 Timothy 4:12
A young lad sits staring out the classroom window. The sun is shining on the sports field, some kids in PE kits are playing cricket, 'and here am I stuck in an RE room learning nothing' the teenager thinks to himself.
But as he gawps at the bright blue summer skies, something amazing happens. A face seems to appear like lightening through the cloudless heavens. The sun is sparkling all around and yet there is lightening. And a voice cracks open the earth, louder than Vesuvius erupting.
Yet the kids still chase a ball on the field, classmates keep their heads in textbooks. A finger like a flaming torch shoots through the window and touches the young lad's lips. 'Before you even made an appearance on your mum's first baby scan, I'd singled you out. I'm giving you the job of my top spokesperson for the world'.
Young Jeremiah looks around, the teacher takes a swig of coffee and continues with his marking. 'Me? A spokes-what? But I'm just a kid. I've not even taken my GCSE's yet!'
The kid next to him covered his answers. 'Never believe the "I'm too young" thing.'
And with that, Jeremiah shot across the room from the sheer power of the words gunned into his mouth. Youth and inexperience do not disqualify when God calls. The beginning of Jeremiah shows that God always equips and supports those he hires despite their lack of years or CV job history.
