'It's too hard! If Jesus actually walked through that door, performed a miracle in front of my very eyes and walked through the wall, then I'd follow Him!' It can be tempting to think that if Jesus was around today, it would make it easier to drop our own plans and follow Him.
But it was just as challenging to follow Jesus then as it is now - and Jesus knew it. The masses loved it when Jesus turned a packed lunch into a family feast for over five-thousand, but when He went on to reveal what it would cost them, some of them couldn't stomach it. It's no different today. You can listen to the most amazing inspirational sermon at church on a Sunday, but it's only Tuesday before you feel back to square one.
Sticking with Jesus takes obedience. Peter, the fisherman turned disciple, got it right. When Jesus confronted His disciples on their stick-ability: 'Do you also want to leave?', He replied, 'Master, to whom would we go? You have the words of real life, eternal life. We've already committed ourselves, confident that you are the Holy One of God." (John 6:66-69 TM)
Notice how Peter called Jesus 'Master' (or 'Boss') - He knew that what Jesus said went.
What now? Read Luke 9:18-27. Do you need to recommit your life to Jesus? Or are there parts of your life you need to experience His being King in? Pass these over to God, in prayer.
